The Scottish Seabird Centre
25th Anniversary Brand Identity
About the Client
The Scottish Seabird Centre is a leading marine conservation and education charity based in North Berwick, East Lothian. The organisation is known for its award-winning visitor experience, which includes interactive exhibitions, live wildlife cameras, boat trips, learning programmes and vital conservation work focused on Scotland’s unique marine environment.
The Brief
In 2025, the Scottish Seabird Centre celebrates its 25th anniversary. Over the years, the charity has earned a reputation for excellence in conservation, education and sustainable tourism, with accolades including multiple Green Tourism Awards and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
To mark this major milestone, the Centre needed a distinctive anniversary identity. The design had to work seamlessly alongside the existing brand, while also standing proudly on its own across a wide range of materials and media.
Creative Strategy
Starting with the existing brand as a foundation, I developed a new design device that would feel familiar yet fresh. Using the Centre’s established typeface, I created a visual mark that reflected both the past and future of the charity.
Design Execution
The number ‘25’ was at the heart of the design. I extended the loop of the ‘5’ to create a frame for the iconic diving gannet from the existing logo. This framing device became a flexible graphic element. It could be used as a standalone motif, as a cut-out for wildlife photography, or to anchor key campaign visuals.
A subtle silver finish added a sense of celebration and prestige, while the Centre’s full colour palette gave the design versatility across print and digital formats.
The Results
The new identity was rolled out across every touchpoint of the anniversary celebrations. From event signage and marketing materials to clothing, digital campaigns and even commemorative cakes, the brand became a unifying symbol of the year.
A short film titled ‘25 Years of the Scottish Seabird Centre’ was produced, capturing stories of community impact, conservation wins and the organisation’s ambitions for the future.
