James Jones & Sons
History of Innovation Campaign
A timber company with 180 years of history needed a campaign that felt current and innovative, whilst honouring their rich history. By blending archive photography with new imagery, Mr Smith Creative created a story of progress, heritage and innovation. The result went beyond a single campaign, and became part of the identity of James Jones & Sons Ltd itself.
New photography by Steve Reid.
The campaign centred on a simple but powerful idea: showing 180 years of innovation in a single frame. Historic archive photography became the foundation for a new visual story, carefully merged with new contemporary photography to show that the same, innovation led approach had been adopted by James Jones & Sons for generations.
Hand drawn scamps shaped how old and new could sit together, before being brought to life through photography and retouching. The result gave James Jones & Sons Ltd a distinctive campaign that worked across digital, exhibitions, film and print. It celebrated engineering, forestry and family ownership in a way that felt authentic, confident and built to last.
This project was a finalist for Best Art Direction in the Roses Creative Awards.
“I have worked with Andy for several years, both developing brands and also delivering integrated campaign ideas. He is extremely talented on both counts and will take the brief and deliver the creative beyond any expectations. I’ve found him to be reliable and fun to work with and will produce work of an exceptional standard, bringing the whole project to life.”
